The crab fest, as it is more commonly called, is very popular on the EC12 national schedule of 23 events. Held in Cambridge, MD, the pond is located across the street from the white beaches of the Choptank River. This is all private land and our own little park.

Each July Scott (Big Dog) and Sara Todd calls for a gathering and there is a rush for what hotels there are in this town. You hesitate and you will be in Easton seventeen miles away. Considering this is a small pond with wind rolling in over trees, it will draw just under twenty boats with many of the top ten in the class. It is a party and the sailing is a challenge in a beautiful setting.

Saturday night is traditional in the class with a gathering of the competitors for the evening. Here, it is in the country, outside and beside the Little Choptank River where the BBQ is manned and large platters of crab, hamburgers and corn are served. It is a feast and a delightful evening.

Racing was close in scoring and contact all weekend on a long course using the entire pond with varying wind direction and velocity. Mark Rinehart, National Champion, prepared and managed a long competitive course with 2-1/2 laps and starting all 18 entries in single fleet. The Todd’s prepared a leftover lunch Sunday on the beach and all were not in a rush to leave. It was and is a nice event.
